(a) The element that is less reactive is X. This is because it has an atomic number of 10, which corresponds to Neon (Ne) in the periodic table. Neon is a noble gas and has a full outer electron shell, making it stable and less likely to react with other elements.

(b) (i) The two elements that would react most vigorously with each other are W and Z. These correspond to Fluorine (F, atomic number 9) and Magnesium (Mg, atomic number 12) respectively. Fluorine is the most reactive non-metal and Magnesium is a very reactive metal.

(ii) When Fluorine and Magnesium react, they form Magnesium Fluoride. The formula of this compound is MgF2. This is because Magnesium has a +2 charge and Fluorine has a -1 charge, so two Fluorine atoms are needed to balance the charge of one Magnesium atom.
