Statement I: Components of azeotropes cannot be separated by fractional distillation. This is because azeotropes are mixtures that have the same composition in the liquid and vapor phase and boil at a constant temperature. Therefore, no matter how much you distill them, the composition of the liquid and vapor phase remains the same.

Statement II: The solution which shows a large positive deviation from Raoult’s law forms maximum boiling azeotropes, not minimum. These are formed when the vapor pressure of the solution is less than the vapor pressure of any of the pure components. Therefore, the boiling point of the solution is higher than the boiling point of any of the pure components.
