Assessment 2 - Digital Story and Paper Students are required to produce a 5 minute (4.5mins to 5.5 mins) Digital Story based on their reading and research on the topic: Deficit discourses, Virtual Schoolbags, Turn Around Pedagogies and Teaching. Whilst you do not have to cover all three concepts, you must explicitly engage at least two. The video is to be accompanied by a 1080-1320 (1200) word paper that needs to be prepared using the the pro-forma provided below. There are detailed submission notes provided on this Moodle site. Due 30th March by 11.59pm. Students are required to produce a Digital Story based on their sociological reading and research on the topic: Deficit discourses, Virtual Schoolbags, Turn Around Pedagogies and Teaching. Students are encouraged to emphasise research-based pedagogical initiatives/responses to the issues posed in the video. Adequate time should be provided, in the video, to outlining these initiatives/responses. Don’t rush this part of the video. Please note that you are asked to adopt a sociological perspective in this task and as such psychological and medical issues e.g. ADHD, ASD students, and food allergies, should be avoided. Pedagogical responses in the form of ‘Turnaround Pedagogies’ should also draw upon sociological perspectives, rather than psychological approaches. The textbook, modules and subject readings can help with this. Students are also required to write a 1200-word analysis of the theoretical concepts that they have used to inform their digital story. Your analysis should explicitly refer both to the sociological and pedagogical theory that underpins your story and to specific events depicted in your story. Markers will watch your story and first and read the paper second. Please do not ‘retell’ the events of your story. Instead you should focus on analysing those events, relating them to relevant research and theory, and demonstrating your understanding of differentiation and inclusion.
