Marx's theory of capitalist modernity excels in its sharp assessment of capitalism's intrinsic contradictions. Central to Marx's analysis is the concept of surplus value, elucidated in "Capital Vol. 1," wherein capitalists extract surplus labor from workers to generate profit, perpetuating exploitation. This exploitation, rooted in the private ownership of the means of production and the commodification of labor, leads to alienation, as workers become estranged from the fruits of their labor and their own humanity.
