Why doesnt planet appear to be twinkling

Solution

Planets do not appear to twinkle like stars do for a few reasons:

  1. Proximity: Planets are much closer to Earth than stars. This means the light they emit or reflect doesn't have to travel as far, and is therefore less affected by Earth's atmosphere.

  2. Size: Planets appear larger in the sky than stars because they are closer. This means their light is less affected by atmospheric turbulence.

  3. Steady Light: Stars twinkle because their light is point-source. When it passes through Earth's atmosphere, it is refracted in many directions causing the twinkling effect. Planets, being closer and appearing larger, send more a steady light that is less affected by atmospheric refraction.

So, in summary, planets do not twinkle because they are closer to Earth and their light is less disturbed by our atmosphere.
