Solution

A clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a predicate (verb). It is the smallest grammatical unit that can express a complete proposition. There are two major types of clauses: Main (or independent) clause and Subordinate (or dependent) clause. A main clause can stand alone as a sentence, while a subordinate clause cannot stand alone as a complete sentence and is always a part of a sentence.
