State the two types of circulatory system in humans.
Question
State the two types of circulatory system in humans.
Solution
The two types of circulatory systems in humans are:
-
Systemic Circulation: This is the part of the circulatory system in which the blood leaves the heart, gets oxygenated in the lungs, and is then sent to all parts of the body. It starts from the left ventricle of the heart, goes into the aorta, and then branches out to all parts of the body supplying oxygenated blood. After the oxygen is used up, the deoxygenated blood returns to the heart, specifically to the right atrium through the superior and inferior vena cava.
-
Pulmonary Circulation: This is the part of the circulatory system that carries deoxygenated blood away from the heart, to the lungs, and returns oxygenated blood back to the heart. It starts from the right ventricle of the heart and goes into the pulmonary artery, which splits into two to go to each lung. In the lungs, the blood gets oxygenated and returns to the heart, specifically to the left atrium through the pulmonary veins.
