Describe two ways in which the circulatory system of a fish is different from the circulatorysystem of a mammal

Type of Circulatory System: Fish have a single circulatory system, also known as a two-chambered heart system. This means that the blood flows from the heart to the gills, then from the gills to the rest of the body, and back to the heart in one single circuit. On the other hand, mammals have a double circulatory system, also known as a four-chambered heart system. This means that the blood flows from the heart to the lungs (pulmonary circulation), back to the heart, then from the heart to the rest of the body (systemic circulation), and back to the heart. This double system allows for more efficient oxygenation of the blood.

Oxygenation of Blood: In fish, the blood is oxygenated in the gills. As water passes over the thin walls of the gills, oxygen is transferred into the blood and carbon dioxide is expelled. This oxygenated blood then travels to the rest of the body to deliver oxygen. In mammals, the blood is oxygenated in the lungs. Air is inhaled into the lungs, and oxygen is transferred into the blood in the lung capillaries, while carbon dioxide is expelled when we exhale. This oxygenated blood then travels back to the heart before being pumped to the rest of the body.
