Solution

The metal salt in this case could be Aluminium salt (Al3+). When we add Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) to an Aluminium salt solution, it forms a white precipitate of Aluminium Hydroxide (Al(OH)3).

However, when we add Ammonium Hydroxide (NH4OH) to an Aluminium salt solution, it initially forms the same white precipitate of Aluminium Hydroxide. But on further addition of NH4OH, the precipitate dissolves to form a colorless, clear solution due to the formation of a complex ion [Al(OH)4]-.

So, the metal salt is Aluminium salt and the white precipitate is Aluminium Hydroxide.
