Solution

A political party is an organized group of people who have the same ideology, or who otherwise have the same political positions, and who field candidates for elections, in an attempt to get them elected and thereby implement the party's agenda.

Here are four characteristics of a political party:

  1. Shared Ideology: Every political party has a certain ideology and agenda which it works to promote. This ideology forms the basis of all the policies and programs it develops.

  2. Organized Structure: Political parties have a highly organized structure with leaders, workers, and supporters. They have national, state, and local level units that work together for the party's cause.

  3. Contest Elections: One of the primary functions of a political party is to contest elections and try to win political power. They select candidates, support them, and campaign for them in elections.

  4. Formulate Public Policy: Once in power, political parties formulate and implement public policies in accordance with their ideologies. They make decisions that affect the country's economy, foreign policy, and social systems.
