Solution

  1. Cell Structure: Prokaryotic cells are generally smaller and simpler compared to eukaryotic cells. They do not have a nucleus; instead, their genetic material (DNA) is found in a region called the nucleoid. On the other hand, eukaryotic cells have a true nucleus enclosed by a nuclear membrane where the DNA is stored.

Example: Bacteria and Archaea are examples of prokaryotes, while plants, animals, and fungi are examples of eukaryotes.

  1. Organelles: Prokaryotic cells lack membrane-bound organelles. They do not have structures like mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, or Golgi apparatus which are present in eukaryotic cells.

Example: In a bacterial cell (prokaryote), the processes of respiration occur in the cell membrane as they do not have mitochondria. In contrast, in a human cell (eukaryote), these processes occur in the mitochondria.

  1. Reproduction: Prokaryotic cells reproduce asexually through a process called binary fission, which results in two identical daughter cells. Eukaryotic cells, however, can reproduce both asexually (mitosis) and sexually (meiosis).

Example: E. coli, a type of bacteria, reproduces through binary fission. On the other hand, humans reproduce sexually through the process of meiosis.
