This growth has been facilitated by advancements in technology and logistics, which have made it possible for consumers to purchase goods from anywhere in the world and have them delivered to their doorstep.

Distributed logistics, on the other hand, involves the use of multiple distribution centers to store and ship products, as opposed to a centralized warehouse. This model allows for faster delivery times and lower shipping costs, making it an attractive option for online retailers.

However, these developments pose significant challenges for the traditional warehouse model. Warehouses are no longer simply storage facilities; they are now required to handle a wide range of tasks, including inventory management, order fulfillment, and returns processing. This shift in function necessitates changes in warehouse design, operations, and management.

Jumia Uganda, as one of the leading online retailers in the country, provides an excellent case study for exploring these issues. Since its launch in 2014, the company has experienced significant growth, with its customer base increasing from 50,000 in 2014 to over 500,000 in 2020 (Jumia Uganda, 2020). This growth has necessitated changes in the company's warehousing and logistics strategies.

This study will examine the changes that Jumia Uganda has made to its warehouse operations in response to the growth of online shopping and distributed logistics. It will also explore the challenges the company has faced in this process and the strategies it has used to overcome them.
