Solution

The question about the party is separate from the rest of the text and it's a classic problem of set theory.

We know that 40 people chose to kiss Sherry, and 25 people chose to shake hands with him. However, 10 people did both, so they are being counted twice in the total of 40 + 25 = 65.

To avoid double-counting, we subtract the 10 people who did both from the total, giving us 65 - 10 = 55 people.

So, the answer is 55 people turned out at the party.
