Solution

Heat can be transferred via three main methods: conduction, convection, and radiation.

  1. Conduction: This is the process through which heat is transferred from one particle of a body to another without the actual movement of the particles. This method is most effective in solids because the particles are closely packed and can easily pass on their energy. For example, when one end of a metal rod is heated, the heat is transferred to the other end through conduction.

  2. Convection: This method of heat transfer occurs in fluids (liquids and gases). When a fluid is heated, it expands, becomes less dense, and rises. The cooler, denser fluid then falls to replace it. This creates a convection current which transfers heat from the bottom to the top. An example of this is boiling water in a pot.

  3. Radiation: This is the only method that can transfer heat
