Solution

The kidneys help to maintain blood pressure by monitoring the water-salt balance of the blood. When the kidneys detect a decrease in blood flow (which can be caused by low blood volume or low blood pressure), they release an enzyme called renin. This triggers a chain of reactions that ultimately lead to the production of a hormone called aldosterone. Aldosterone signals the kidneys to reabsorb more sodium and water back into the blood, which increases blood volume and therefore, blood pressure.
