Question

Put each step about the steps of operation of fluid flow from the torque converter to the lube circuit into the correct order.

Solution

  1. The operation begins when the engine spins the pump of the torque converter. This causes the transmission fluid to be drawn into the pump from the sump.

  2. The fluid is then directed to the impeller of the torque converter. The impeller, being connected to the engine, spins and throws the fluid to the outside of the converter.

  3. The fluid then hits the turbine blades in the converter, causing the turbine to spin, which in turn spins the transmission.

  4. The fluid exits the turbine at the center, where it is then directed to the stator.

  5. The stator redirects the fluid back to the pump, assisting in the spinning of the pump.

  6. Some of the fluid is also directed to the transmission's lubrication system. This is the lube circuit.

  7. In the lube circuit, the fluid lubricates the gears and other moving parts of the transmission.

  8. The fluid then returns to the sump, ready to be drawn back into the pump, and the cycle repeats.
