Kontekst: After determining the promotion of humanrights as one of the organization’s purposes inArticle 1/3, UN Charter gives place to humanrights in its articles 13, 55, 56, 62, 68, and 76.Article 13 gives the General Assembly the taskof initiating studies and making recommendationsforassisting in the realization of human rights andfundamental freedoms for all without distinctionas to race, sex, language, or religion.Articles 55 and 56 go under the headingof “International Economic and Social Co-Operation”. Article 55 states that the UN willpromote universal respect for, and observanceof, human rights and fundamental freedomsfor all without distinction as to race, sex,language, or religion. According to Article 56,all Members promise to take joint and separateaction in co-operation with the Organizationfor the achievement of the purposes set forth inArticle 55.Articles 62 and 68 are under the Chapter Xdevoted to the ECOSOC. Article 62/2 providesthat the ECOSOC may make recommendationsfor the purpose of promoting respect for, andobservance of, human rights and fundamentalfreedoms for all. Article 68 is the basis of theCommission of Human Rights since it gives theECOSOC the power to set up commissions for thepromotion of human rights.Article 76 is placed under Chapter XII titled“International Trusteeship System”. It makes thepurposes of the UN as an organization providedin Article 1, also the purposes of the trusteeshipsystem.It can be discerned from the relevant articles thatthe Charter’s main concern was the discriminationbased on race, sex, language or religion.
