Moisture helps to maintain the partial pressure gradient necessary for gas exchange and prevents desiccation of respiratory surcaces, this is the problem for all land organisms because their surface always dries in air so it needs to be moist to have a efficient gas exchange, whereas this is not problem for fish because they inhale oxygen with water through their gills so which is also wet in water. *Short diffusion system: Gas exchange surfaces need to be short to minimize the diffusion distance for gases. The membranes or epithelial tissues must be thin to allow for rapid diffusion of gases across the respiraotry surface, ensuring both efficient exchange and the less time take for gases to diffuse. *Effecient ventilation: Adequate ventilation mechanisms are necessary to maintain a constant supply of fresh air across the gas exchange surfaces.
