The term Technical education is also accompanied with the term Vocational education and they two are used sometimes. In this section, we will discuss the nature of the two types of education, their significance, and their in the Indian context. Institutions offering technical education like the IITs, teach the theory and science the occupation, while vocational institutions, like the ITIs, adopt a more hands-on approach to impart the skills needed to do the job successfully. The completion of programmes/courses at the technical colleges/institutes results in a bachelor's or a master’s degree. Vocational courses and programs often result in a certificate of completion and are offered at the lower level of education and training (Certificates and Diplomas). These are aimed at on teaching skills related to a specific vocation or trade to skilled, unskilled or semi-skilled workers in various occupations. Because of its focus on developing skills, vocational education is not aimed at the level of education as such.On the other hand, Technical Education (TE) is academic and vocational preparation of students jobs involving application of concepts of science and modern technology. Further, technical education and vocational education is of two types- institution -based and industry-based in institution-based system students seek admission to theoretical knowledge and practical work, and receive a degree, diploma or a certificate by the regulatory bodies. In the industry-based system, individuals are attached with industries as apprentices/ interns to learn the skills in a specific field ‘on the floor ‘Both terms together, that is Technical and Vocational education represent a complex of activities leading a first degree, diploma and certificate courses.
