Developed by Professor Walter Pauk at Cornell University in the 1950s, this method assists students with quality note-taking during lectures and aids with studying for exams. This method suits my personality and works best for my learning style. As we learnt at the beginning of this course, quality notes can be the difference between a good grade and a failing one. The Cornell Method employs a header, cue column, note column, and summary column to provide structure and organization to the notes during the lecture. Students can then condense the notes into key points after class. This is great for studying, revision, self-quizzing, interactions with other students on the topic, and identifying knowledge gaps. The versatility of the Cornell method easily allows notes to be taken on a laptop or by hand. However, you should opt for handwritten notes since your mind is engaged in active learning techniques with the course materials, causing you to think about what you want to write. Typing bends towards the passive state of mind, as it is easier to reproduce what you are hearing. The Cornell method is more versatile for presentations and lectures when compared to other note-taking methods like the Outline and Write-on-Slides methods. These methods are most effective when an Outline or PowerPoint presentation is provided to the audience beforehand. The Mind Mapping and The Flow Method are better for essay planning or brainstorming, but not recommended for recording large amounts of data. Even though conditions may dictate which of the methods works best, anyone can easily apply the Cornell Method to any note-taking occasion. There may be a better way to take notes while listening to the podcast, but I used the outline method, which I am most familiar with, to take handwritten notes all at once while listening to a 17-minute podcast. 2. The note-taking strategy I selected, the Outline Method, is particularly beneficial for my study habits because it facilitates the identification of priorities. In comparison to other strategies I considered, It is helpful for review and memorization. For instance, I was able to distinguish the major and minor genres. When I listened to the podcast for the first time, I arranged them in chronological order from top to bottom, with the more minor episodes listed on the right and essential events, words, and ideas written in capital letters on the right. Let me correct this so that everything is clear; my handwriting is awful, as you can see, so if I have a test for this, I always write in class and then go home to re-write a clean copy. Individuals have their likes and dislikes, and I can't guarantee that this will apply to all situations, but in my experience, these have worked in most classes. In addition, this method is handy for memorizing before a test, compared to other notebooks. I learn the right side first to get the big picture and then memorize the left side to understand the details. If you are busy, you can memorize the right side for now, if you don't mind. Everyone prefers note-taking, and there isn't a correct answer. Still, based on these considerations, the outline method is better suited for studying than other note-taking methods in terms of its easy-to-understand priorities. Have a wonderful day!! What was one of the lessons in this activity? Using mnemonic devices can help me remember important information. If my instructor uses PowerPoint slides, it’s best to focus on listening to the lecture in class rather than taking notes. Multitasking while studying can make studying more pleasant and effective. It’s better to type notes rather than handwrite them because I can store my notes in the cloud.

In my working environment it is very into a technology based environment. Meaning from the students' work and practices is online. Reading 4.4 of Got Notes gives a variety of methods that students can use to take notes. From the different methods of outlines, concept map to Cornell methods (College Success, 2010). Growing up the Cornell Method is the best method that could help me when it came to organizing my thoughts and gave me a system to start to learn how to retain information when it came to my courses. It would help me, especially those diagnosed with ADHD and OCD. It has given an advantage to how I retain information. Using “cues” and “recalls” it has been easier to know that I understand the course. Highlighting and using colors has also helped me out when it comes to recording my notes as annotation can be a key factor of what is put on a test. Looking at the other note taking strategies I would also pick and outline as it is easier compared to the Cornell Method when it comes to a certain type of organizational skills. Especially with different Capital Letters for the main topics having the numbers as subtopics to write under the main topic. The method that isn’t my benefit would be the concept map just as for me it is a floating list that you would have to go everywhere to write down the concepts. With my ADHD and OCD it would make me want to convert the concept map as a list and organize by sub topics with indicating arrows with their own
