Solution

In the base 10 system:

  1. The smallest 3-digit number is 100 and the largest 3-digit number is 999. So, there are 999 - 100 + 1 = 900 three-digit numbers.

  2. The smallest 4-digit number is 1000 and the largest 4-digit number is 9999. So, there are 9999 - 1000 + 1 = 9000 four-digit numbers.
