How is meiosis related to sexual reproduction?

Meiosis is directly related to sexual reproduction in several ways:

1. Formation of Gametes: Meiosis is the process through which gametes, or sex cells, are formed. In humans, these are the sperm and egg cells. Each gamete contains half the number of chromosomes of a normal cell, which is 23 in humans.
