Solution

The 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene, as identified by the World Health Organization, are critical times when hand hygiene should be performed to prevent the spread of infectious agents during patient care. These moments are:

  1. Before touching a patient: Hand hygiene must be performed before touching a patient when approaching him/her.

  2. Before clean/aseptic procedures: Clean your hands immediately before performing a clean/aseptic procedure.

  3. After body fluid exposure/risk: Hand hygiene should be performed immediately after an exposure risk to body fluids (and after glove removal).

  4. After touching a patient: Hand hygiene should be performed immediately after touching a patient and when leaving the patient’s surroundings.

  5. After touching patient surroundings: Hand hygiene should be performed after touching any object or furniture in the patient's immediate surroundings, when the patient has not been touched.

The moments you mentioned such as after going to the toilet, before eating, and before commencing work are also important times to perform hand hygiene, but they are not included in the WHO's 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene.
