3. The Value-expressive Function: Attitudes provide us with a basis for expressing our identity. This is where attitudes correspond to personal values. For example, a person who places a high value on environmental protection may develop a negative attitude towards people who litter.

4. The Social-adjustive Function: Attitudes can help us fit in and adapt to our social world. They can make us feel part of a group and can help us fit into social situations. For example, if we know that a particular friend or group of friends have a negative attitude towards smoking, we may adopt the same attitude in order to fit in with the group.
