The protected areas located in the Cauvery basin are:

1. Nagarhole National Park: This park is located in the two districts of Mysore and Kodagu in the state of Karnataka. The park is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The western part of the park is continuous with the Bandipur National Park. The park has a rich forest cover, small streams, valleys, and waterfalls. The park has a healthy predator-prey ratio, with many tigers, Indian bison, and elephants.

2. Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve: This reserve is located in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu. It is the largest wildlife sanctuary in Tamil Nadu and has been declared a Tiger Reserve. The reserve is significant as it is a major wildlife corridor in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve between the Western Ghats and the rest of the Eastern Ghats and a genetic link between the four other protected areas which it is contiguous with, including the Bandipur National Park, Mudumalai National Park, Sigur Plateau, and the Biligiriranga Swamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary.

3. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary: This sanctuary is an animal sanctuary in Wayanad, Kerala, India. It has an extent of 344.44 km2 with four ranges namely Sulthan Bathery, Muthanga, Kurichiat, and Tholpetty. A variety of large wild animals such as Indian bison, elephant, deer, and tiger are found there.

Papikonda National Park is not located in the Cauvery basin. It is located in the Papi hills in East Godavari and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh.
