Hormones can be classified based on their chemical structure into three main types:

  2. Steroid Hormones: These are derived from cholesterol and are fat-soluble. They can pass through the cell membrane and bind to receptors inside the cell. Examples include estrogen and testosterone.

  3. Amino Acid Derivative Hormones: These are derived from a single amino acid, either tyrosine or tryptophan. They can be either water-soluble or fat-soluble. Examples include adrenaline (water-soluble) and thyroid hormones (fat-soluble).

Each of these types of hormones has a different mechanism of action due to their different chemical structures.
