What is Communitarianism?

Communitarianism is a social and political philosophy that emphasizes the importance of community in the functioning of political life, in the analysis and evaluation of political institutions, and in understanding human identity and well-being. It was developed in the late 20th century as a response to liberal individualism. Communitarianism argues that the individual's freedom can only be realized in the context of social values, responsibilities, and relationships, which are shaped by the community. It also emphasizes the importance of social institutions in the development of individual morality.
