Section 50 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 deals with the power of entry, search, arrest, and detention. This section provides certain powers to the officers authorized by the government or the Chief Wildlife Warden or the authorized officer. These powers include:

  1. Entry, search, seize and detain: Any officer not below the rank of an Assistant Director of wildlife preservation or a Wildlife Warden, may, if he has reasonable grounds for believing that any person has committed an offence against this Act, require any such person to produce for inspection any captive animal, wild animal, animal article, trophy, uncured trophy, meat, specified plant or part or derivative thereof in his control, custody or possession, or any licence, permit or other document granted to him or required to be kept by him in pursuance of the provisions of this Act or the rules made thereunder.

  2. Arrest: Any officer of a rank not inferior to that of an Assistant Director of wildlife preservation or Wildlife Warden may, without orders from a Magistrate and without a warrant, arrest any person against whom a reasonable suspicion exists of his having been involved in any offence against this Act.

  3. Detention: Any officer of a rank not inferior to that of an Assistant Director of wildlife preservation or Wildlife Warden may detain any person, vehicle, vessel or weapon found involved in the commission of any offence against this Act.

  4. Search and seizure: Any officer of a rank not inferior to that of an Assistant Director of wildlife preservation or Wildlife Warden may search any premises, vehicle or vessel in the occupation of a person whom he has reason to believe to be guilty of an offence against this Act, and seize any animal article, trophy, uncured trophy, meat, specified plant or part or derivative thereof in respect of which an offence against this Act has been committed, and any vehicle, vessel or weapon used in the commission of the said offence.
