The North-East Monsoons, also known as the Winter Monsoons, blow from land to sea, unlike the South-West Monsoons which blow from sea to land. These winds originate from the high-pressure area over the Mongolian Plateau and blow towards the low-pressure area over the Indian Ocean.

Here are the reasons why the North-East Monsoons bring almost no rain to most of India:

1. Direction of Wind: The North-East Monsoons blow from the North-East to the South-West, away from most of the Indian subcontinent. This means that they do not pick up much moisture from the Bay of Bengal and hence, do not cause much rainfall.

2. Land Winds: These are essentially land winds and not sea winds. Land winds are usually dry as they blow over land and do not pick up moisture. Therefore, they do not cause rainfall.

3. High Pressure to Low Pressure: These winds blow from a high-pressure area to a low-pressure area. High-pressure areas are associated with dry and clear weather, while low-pressure areas are associated with cloudy and rainy weather. Since these winds blow from a high-pressure area, they do not bring rain.

On the other hand, the Mango Showers are pre-monsoon showers that are beneficial to the local agriculture, particularly for the mango crop, hence the name. These showers occur in the months of April and May and help in the early ripening of mangoes. They also provide the much-needed relief from the summer heat.

The Mango Showers are caused by the following reasons:

1. Heating of Land: During the summer months, the land gets heated up quickly. This causes the air over the land to rise, creating a low-pressure area.

2. Moisture-laden Winds: The low-pressure area attracts the moisture-laden winds from the sea. These winds, when they come in contact with the hot land, rise, cool, condense and cause rainfall.

3. Relief from Summer Heat: These showers provide relief from the intense summer heat and are beneficial for the agriculture in the region, particularly for the mango crop.
