Solution

(i) If Mr. Rathnayake donated 1/8 of his money to charity, then he has 7/8 of his money left.

(ii) He then invested 4/7 of the remaining amount in a business. To find out what fraction of the total amount this is, we multiply the fractions: (4/7) * (7/8) = 4/8 = 1/2. So, he invested 1/2 of his total money in the business.

(iii) The remaining money, after donating to charity and investing in a business, is Rs. 60,000. This represents the remaining 1/2 of his total money (since 1/8 went to charity and 1/2 went to the business, leaving 1/2). Therefore, to find the total amount of money Mr. Rathnayake had at the beginning, we can simply double the remaining amount: Rs. 60,000 * 2 = Rs. 120,000.
