Solution

Ovulation is a part of the female menstrual cycle where a mature egg is released from the ovarian follicles into the oviduct. This usually happens around the middle of the menstrual cycle, typically day 14 in a 28-day cycle.

Here are the steps of ovulation:

  1. The menstrual cycle begins with the first day of the period. The first half of the cycle is known as the follicular phase. During this phase, the pituitary gland releases follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This hormone stimulates the ovary to produce around 5 to 20 small sacs called follicles. Each follicle contains an immature egg.

  2. Only one of these follicles will mature into an egg, while the others die off. The growth of the follicles stimulates the lining of the uterus to thicken in preparation for possible pregnancy.

  3. Around day 14 of the cycle, a surge in luteinizing hormone (LH) causes the mature follicle to burst and release the egg from the ovary, a process called ovulation.

  4. After being released, the egg is swept into the fallop
