Solution

These two alcohols are isomers because they have the same molecular formula, C4H10O, but their structures are different. Isomers are compounds that have the same molecular formula but different arrangements of atoms. In the first alcohol, CH3 ― CH2 ― CH2 ― CH2 ― OH, the hydroxyl group (-OH) is attached to the fourth carbon atom. In the second alcohol, (CH3)2CH ― CH2 ― OH, the hydroxyl group is attached to the second carbon atom. This difference in the arrangement of atoms results in different physical and chemical properties for these isomers.
