Solution

The formula to calculate purchases is:

Purchases = Opening Stock + Cost of Goods Sold - Closing Stock + Purchase Returns

Substituting the given values into the formula:

Purchases = Sh 12,000 + Sh 111,000 - Sh 18,000 + Sh 5,000

Purchases = Sh 110,000

So, the correct answer is:

a. Sh 110,000
