Solution

A resource is a substance useful to humans that can be naturally occurring or man-made and can be used for various purposes. It can be renewable or non-renewable. For example, water, air, minerals, forests, etc.

On the other hand, a reserve is a subset of the resource that can be economically and legally extracted at the current time. Reserves are often located and measured with a higher degree of certainty than resources. For example, a coal mine may have a large amount of coal (resource), but only a portion of it may be economically feasible to extract (reserve).

So, the main difference between a resource and a reserve is that a resource is the total amount of a substance that exists, while a reserve is the amount of that substance that can be extracted and used economically and legally at the current time.
