The ability to express yourself non-verbally in an electronic setting is important because the person you are messaging should know the situation. For example, if it is an emergency you would want to know like having a kid you would want those exclamation marks.  Also, it can include using facial expressions or hand gestures to emphasize a specific point or utilizing eye contact, physical proximity, and other nonverbal cues to effectively communicate a message. Some expressions I use over text are emojis and in emails I would use exclamation marks and use words like urgent and others.
