Solution

The Book of Enoch, also known as 1 Enoch, is an ancient Jewish religious work, ascribed by tradition to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah. The older sections (mainly in the Book of the Watchers) are estimated to date from about 300 BC, and the latest part (Book of Parables) probably to the first century BC.

It is not part of the biblical canon as used by Jews, apart from Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jews). Most Christian denominations and traditions may accept the Books of Enoch as having some historical or theological interest or significance, but they generally regard the Books of Enoch as non-canonical or non-inspired.

The Book of Enoch was discovered in the 18th century by James Bruce, who brought three copies back from Ethiopia. It was known to early Christians and was the subject of commentary by Origen, Hippolytus, Justin Martyr, Tertullian, and others. However, it was excluded from the Bible and disappeared from Western Christianity by the 4th century.

The most complete Book of Enoch comes from Ethiopic manuscripts, maṣḥafa hēnok, written in Ge'ez; which was brought to Europe by James Bruce in the late 18th century and was translated into English in the 19th century.
