a) Were microorganisms the first organisms from the beginning?
Yes, microorganisms were indeed the first organisms on Earth. The earliest evidence of life on Earth comes from fossilized mats of cyanobacteria called stromatolites in Western Greenland that are about 3.7 billion years old (Nutman et al., 2016). Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic bacteria that were able to use sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose. This process, known as photosynthesis, dramatically changed the Earth's atmosphere by increasing the amount of oxygen, a gas that was rare in the early Earth's atmosphere. This increase in oxygen levels allowed for the evolution of new, more complex life forms.

Microorganisms have always had a symbiotic relationship with other organisms. For example, in humans, there are more microbial cells than human cells, most of which are found in the gut. These gut microbes play a crucial role in human health by helping with digestion, producing vitamins, and protecting against harmful microbes (Sender, Fuchs, & Milo, 2016).
Similarly, in animals, microorganisms play a vital role. For instance, ruminants like cows have a special stomach called the rumen that is full of microbes that help them digest cellulose, a complex carbohydrate found in plants that most animals cannot digest (Hobson & Stewart, 2012).
In plants, there are also symbiotic relationships with microorganisms. For example, legumes have a symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. These bacteria live in nodules on the roots of the plants and convert atmospheric nitrogen into a form that the plant can use for growth (Sprent, 2001).
In conclusion, microorganisms have played a crucial role in the evolution of life on Earth and continue to have a significant impact on the health and survival of many organisms.
