Solution

The Direct-On-Line (DOL) Starting method is not preferred for starting large Induction Motors. This is because DOL Starting applies the full line voltage to the motor terminals and the starting current is very high (6-8 times the full load current) which can cause a high mechanical stress on the motor and the electrical network. This high starting current can cause a drop in the network voltage, which can affect other connected equipment. Therefore, for large Induction Motors, other starting methods like Star-Delta Starting, VSD Starting, or Soft Starter Starting are preferred as they limit the starting current and reduce the mechanical stress on the motor.
