Solution

Pumblechook is a character from Charles Dickens' novel "Great Expectations". He is a pompous, self-important bachelor who is a corn merchant, living in the market town of Rochester. Pumblechook is also Pip's uncle Joe's uncle, making him Pip's uncle-in-law.

Pumblechook gets Pip into Satis House through his acquaintance with Miss Havisham. Miss Havisham, a wealthy and eccentric woman, asks Pumblechook to find a boy to come and play at her house. Pumblechook immediately thinks of Pip and brings him to Satis House. This visit changes the course of Pip's life as he meets Estella there and falls in love with her, and later becomes a gentleman with the help of a mysterious benefactor, whom he assumes to be Miss Havisham.
