Solution

An antibody is a blood protein produced in response to and counteracting a specific antigen. Antibodies combine chemically with substances which the body recognizes as alien, such as bacteria, viruses, and foreign substances in the blood. They are produced by the immune system to help stop intruders from harming the body. When an intruder enters the body, the immune system springs into action. These antibodies remain in a person's body to protect against future infections.
