Solution

The heat produced in a resistor when a capacitor discharges through it can be calculated using the formula:

Q = 1/2 * C * V^2

where: Q is the heat produced, C is the capacitance of the capacitor, and V is the voltage across the capacitor.

Given: C = 16 μF = 16 * 10^-6 F (converting microfarads to farads) V = 200 V

Substituting these values into the formula, we get:

Q = 1/2 * 16 * 10^-6 F * (200 V)^2 Q = 0.5 * 16 * 10^-6 * 40000 Q = 0.32 Joules

So, the heat produced across the resistor is 0.32 Joules.
