Solution

The direction of the force on a conductor carrying current can be determined using Fleming's Left Hand Rule. According to this rule:

  1. Extend your left hand such that the thumb, index finger and middle finger are perpendicular to each other.
  2. Point your index finger in the direction of the magnetic field. In this case, it is in the positive x-axis.
  3. Point your middle finger in the direction of the current. In this case, it is in the positive y-axis.
  4. Your thumb will then point in the direction of the force.

Following these steps, the thumb points in the negative z-axis. Therefore, the direction of the force on the conductor is in the negative z-axis.
