Uganda is one of the leading coffee producers in the world, with the quality of its coffee being influenced by several factors. Uganda's equatorial location, combined with its high altitude, fertile soils, and abundant rainfall, provides ideal conditions for coffee cultivation, particularly for Robusta and Arabica varieties (ICO, 2018). However, the quality of Ugandan coffee is also affected by post-harvest practices. A study by Kizito et al. (2017) found that improper drying methods and poor storage conditions can significantly reduce the quality of coffee beans. Furthermore, the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) has identified pests and diseases, such as coffee berry disease and coffee wilt disease, as major threats to the quality and productivity of coffee in Uganda (UCDA, 2019). Therefore, while Uganda has the potential to produce high-quality coffee, improvements in post-harvest practices and pest and disease management are necessary to consistently achieve this potential.
