Solution

The pulmonary disorder associated with the breakdown of alveoli is referred to as Emphysema.

Emphysema is a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) where the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs are damaged. Over time, these air sacs can rupture creating one larger air space instead of many small ones and this reduces the surface area of the lungs and the amount of oxygen that reaches your bloodstream.

When you exhale, the damaged alveoli don't work properly and old air becomes trapped, leaving no room for fresh, oxygen-rich air to enter. Most people with this condition smoke or used to smoke. However, people with a family history of emphysema are also at risk.
