Solution

In a workplace, we generally look for the following types of hazards:

  1. Physical Hazards: These are the most common types of hazards and include conditions that can harm the body such as confined spaces, temperature extremes, ionizing radiation, constant loud noise, etc.

  2. Ergonomic Hazards: These hazards occur when the type of work, body positions and working conditions put strain on your body. They are the hardest to spot since you don’t always immediately notice the strain on your body or the harm that these hazards pose. Short-term exposure may result in "sore muscles" the next day or in the days following the exposure, but long term exposure can result in serious long-term illnesses.

  3. Chemical Hazards: Any chemicals that can cause harm to the body are considered chemical hazards. They can be gases, liquids, or solids and can affect you through inhalation, absorption, or ingestion.

  4. Biological Hazards: These types of hazards include exposure to harmful bacteria and viruses that can cause health effects such as hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, and bird flu.

  5. Work Organization Hazards: These include a wide range of hazards that create stress (short term and chronic) and can lead to burnout or workplace violence. They are associated with the way work is designed, organized and managed, as well as the economic and social contexts of work, and are often linked to health issues such as heart disease, burnout, psychological disorders, and musculoskeletal disorders.

  6. Safety Hazards: These are unsafe conditions that can cause injury, illness, or death. Safety hazards are the most common workplace hazards and include spills on floors, incomplete scaffolding, unguarded machinery, poor lighting, etc.

Remember, it's important to always be aware of your surroundings and any potential hazards in your workplace. Regular safety training and workplace inspections can help identify these hazards and keep everyone safe.
