Solution

Rivers carry various materials like clay, silt, and other sediments in a state known as "suspension". This is where particles are carried along by the movement of the water, without settling at the bottom.

In the mountains, where rivers often start, the water flows quickly due to the steep slopes. This rapid movement of water has enough energy to pick up and carry these particles in suspension.

As the river reaches flatter areas near the sea, its speed decreases. The slower movement of the water means it has less energy to keep the particles in suspension.

As a result, these particles start to settle at the bottom of the river. This is why we often see deposits of clay and other sediments in the lower sections of rivers near the sea. The slower movement of the water simply can't support the suspension of these particles, causing them to be deposited.
