Define the view facto

The view factor, also known as the configuration factor, in radiative heat transfer is a proportion that measures the fraction of the radiation which leaves surface A that will strike surface B. It is dependent on the geometry of the two surfaces.

1. Identify the two surfaces: Surface A, which is the emitting surface, and Surface B, which is the receiving surface.

2. Determine the geometry of the two surfaces: The view factor is dependent on the geometry of the two surfaces. It can be different for different shapes like parallel plates, perpendicular plates, etc.

3. Use the view factor formula: The view factor (F) from surface A to surface B can be calculated using the formula:

   F_A->B = ∫∫ [(cosθ_A cosθ_B) / (πd^2)] * dA_A * dA_B

   where θ_A and θ_B are the angles made by the normal at the surfaces with the line joining the differential areas dA_A and dA_B, and d is the distance between dA_A and dA_B.

4. Calculate the view factor: Substitute the values into the formula and calculate the view factor.

Remember, the view factor is always between 0 and 1. A view factor of 0 means no radiation from surface A will strike surface B, and a view factor of 1 means all radiation from surface A will strike surface B.
