(a) (i) Animal X likely lives in a dry environment. (b) Vasoconstriction plays a key role in thermoregulation by reducing blood flow to the skin and extremities, thereby reducing heat loss and helping to maintain body temperature. When the body is cold, vasoconstriction occurs to prevent heat loss. Conversely, when the body is hot, vasodilation occurs to increase blood flow to the skin and extremities, promoting heat loss to cool the body.
