Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are common in young athletes. The ACL provides stability and minimizes stress across the knee and is proposed to play an integral role in the central somatosensory feedback loop by providing information regarding knee joint position and movement which is generally known as balance.     The double leg stance posture is frequently used to assess balance. Impaired postural control, measured by balance in single-limb stance, has been reported after an ACL injuries, as well as after ACL reconstruction. Consequently, postural stability has been measured following ACL injury or reconstruction surgery.     In the double-leg stance the individual is instructed, to stand erect, as motionless as possible, on a normal comfortable posture, with opened eyes looking straight ahead at a cross marked at approximately eye level on a black board 5 m away and barefoot with feet shoulder width apart on the platform with the arms by their sides. Each individual is requested to keep a quiet stance posture for 30 seconds. The assessment includes three measurements, and 5 minutes rest is provided between successive trials. The best trial is further analyzed.     In single-limb stance, the individual is instructed to stand on one foot, which is placed pointing straight forward in relation to reference lines in the frontal and sagittal planes. The swinging leg is flexed 90° at the hip and knee joints with both arms hanging relaxed at the sides. The individual  is instructed to stand as still as possible, looking straight ahead at a point on the wall 65 cm away. The test order between legs is randomized. If single-limb balance is not maintained for 30 seconds the trial is not recorded and the measurement is repeated. Finally, the best trial is further analyzed.43. Solution

  1. The main topic of the passage is C. Postural stability assessment

  2. The word "reconstruction" in the sentence “... as well as after ACL reconstruction” in Paragraph 2, could best be replaced by D. Rebuilding

  3. According to the passage, the appropriate requirement for the double-leg stance is A. The trial should be maintained for 30 seconds in order to be approved and recorded.

  4. The author's purpose in the fourth paragraph is C. To describe how the single-limb-stance is performed

  5. The standing position on both single-leg and double-leg balance tests is D. comfortably

  6. The following text may be about D. The analysis of double leg and single leg measurement

  7. The statement "The somatosensory system is a complex system of sensory neurons and neural pathways that responds to changes at the surface or inside the body." is A. True

  8. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) maintains stability and minimizes stress across the knee and is suggested to play an B. integral role in the central somatosensory feedback loop by providing information regarding knee joint position and movement.

  9. Reconstruction surgery is performed on young athletes with ACL injuries; C. however, postural stability should be measured following reconstruction surgery.

  10. If single-limb balance (was) not (maintained) for 30 (seconds), it should be (repeating). The word/phrase that should be corrected or rewritten is D. repeating. It should be "repeated".
