Solution

The technique used to separate a solvent from a solution is called Evaporation. Here are the steps:

  1. Pour the solution into an evaporating dish. This dish is shallow and has a large surface area to speed up the process of evaporation.

  2. Place the evaporating dish on a hot plate or under a heat lamp to heat the solution. This will cause the solvent to start evaporating.

  3. As the solvent evaporates, the solute will start to crystallize out of the solution.

  4. Continue heating until all the solvent has evaporated and only the solute remains.

  5. Allow the dish to cool. The solute can then be scraped out of the dish.

This method is commonly used in labs to produce salt from salt water, or to concentrate a diluted solution.
